What is Clomifene Citrate?
Clomifene Citrate, sold under the brand name Clomid, is a prescription medicine originally developed to treat infertility in women. It works by stimulating hormone production in the body. In fitness circles, it's widely used by men to help restore natural testosterone levels after a steroid cycle.

How Does It Work?
Clomifene works by blocking oestrogen receptors in the brain, specifically in the hypothalamus. This tricks the brain into thinking oestrogen levels are low, which causes it to release more of the hormones that signal the testes to produce testosterone. The result is a natural boost in testosterone production.
What It's Used For
- Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) to restart natural testosterone production
- Combating low testosterone caused by steroid use
- Medical treatment of female infertility (under doctor supervision)
What to Expect
During PCT, most men start to notice improved energy, better mood and a gradual return of libido within the first two weeks. Testosterone levels typically begin climbing back toward normal fairly quickly. It won't add muscle on its own, but it helps you hold on to the gains you made during your cycle.
Possible Side Effects
- Mood swings or emotional changes
- Visual disturbances (blurred vision or light sensitivity)
- Hot flushes and headaches
Cycle & Dosage Notes
A standard PCT protocol runs for 4–6 weeks, starting a few days after your last steroid dose. A common approach is 100mg per day for the first two weeks, then dropping to 50mg per day for the remaining weeks. Clomid is often run alongside Nolvadex for a more complete recovery.
Storage
Keep at room temperature (15–25°C), away from light and moisture. Leave in the original packaging.
