Proviron binds strongly to a protein in the blood called SHBG — sex hormone-binding globulin. Think of SHBG as a sponge that soaks up testosterone and stops it from doing its job. By attaching to SHBG, Proviron frees up more testosterone in your body so it can actually be used. It also doesn't convert to oestrogen — the female hormone — which helps keep side effects like water retention low.
