Diazepam works by enhancing the effect of GABA, a natural calming chemical in the brain. This slows down activity in the central nervous system, producing a calming and relaxing effect. The result is reduced anxiety, muscle tension, and in some cases, prevention of seizures.
Most people feel a noticeable calming effect within 30–60 minutes of taking a dose. Muscle tension eases and feelings of anxiety reduce fairly quickly. At higher doses, drowsiness is common, so avoid driving or operating machinery.
Diazepam is intended for short-term use only, typically no longer than 2–4 weeks under medical supervision. Long-term use carries a real risk of physical dependence and tolerance. Always taper the dose gradually rather than stopping abruptly.
Keep at room temperature (15–25°C), away from light and moisture. Leave in the original packaging.
